Who is affected when someone goes to prison?

With phone charges that are 24 times the rate of other calls, it’s cheaper to call Singapore than reach a loved one in the prison.  Predatory prison phone rates are a $362 million dollar a year business with kickbacks and charges that hurt families and increase recidivism.  To end this, Blend helped Participant Films, Center for Media Justice, and MAG-Net drive an on-line signature campaign to encourage the FCC to establish fair rates for all interstate-calling services.

The Result? After a decade-long battle, the FCC Federal Communications Commission voted to cap prison phone rates, decreasing the cost of maintaining family connections by nearly 80%.
